Dyatlov Pass Final Photograph
The last frame of a doomed expedition
The unexplained deaths of nine experienced hikers in Russia's Ural Mountains in 1959 is one of history's most terrifying cold cases. The film recovered from the frozen victims' cameras mostly showed happy camp scenes, but one final, blurry frame depicts a glowing, unidentifiable figure approaching in the dark snow. To this day, no one knows if the eerie image is a ruined exposure or the reason the hikers slashed their way out of their tents.
